Homemade Laundry Detergent
Have you noticed how EXPENSIVE Laundry Detergent is these days?? Here’s a great DIY Liquid Laundry Detergent that is easy and sweet on your skin.
I have a better way. A way of saving money too. Yep – it’s EASY too!
MAKE Your Own. It is a time-saver, money-saver, and I must say it’s pretty self-rewarding!
Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent
4 Cups – Hot tap water
1 – Fels Naptha Bar soap
1 Cup – Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
½ Cup – Baking Soda (Regular)
1 Cap – Thieves Household Cleaner
1 – 5 Gallon Bucket with Lid
Optional Additions: Essential Oils
Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with water.
Simmer over medium-low heat until completely melted and mixed together.
Add the Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda and Regular Baking Soda to simmering pot.
(** I NO longer use Borax. I will be updating this image soon. It’s too harmful on the skin and it’s not needed.)
Continually whisk all ingredients together until completely melted.
Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water.
Add melted soap and washing soda.
Stir well until all powder is dissolved and mixed into the water.
Fill bucket to top with more hot water & mix again.
Stir well, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.
Stir well. It may have gelled to a very thick amount. Or it may not be that thick. I’ve noticed it has to do with the temperature in the location you keep the bucket.
Now Add the Thieves Household Cleaner. You can also add whatever other essential oils you like.
Fill a used, but clean laundry soap container full with this DIY Laundry Soap.
Shake before each use. (It will gel again.)
Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons. Add once soap has cooled and stir well.
Ideas: Lavender essential oil, Rosemary essential oil,Tea Tree oil.
Visit my Young Living site for more information about our Essential Oils… Plus, we have a TON of other products to choose from. Our Purification Essential Oil Blend is another great one to add to your laundry soap or a few drops on Dryer Balls.
You can even become a Wholesale Member (like Costco) for ONLY $45 and buy all your oils at wholesale pricing. I did this and wished later that I had just gone ahead and bought the Premium Starter Kit as it had all the oils I wanted anyway. It’s also the best deal and saves you a HALF off retail!
Yield: Recipe makes 5 gallons and will last apprx. 4 to 6 months – depending on the amount of laundry washing’s you go through.
When you see the bottom of the bucket Repeat this process! Ha! Although, you may want to do this BEFORE you are completely out. 🙂
Top Load Machine: 5/8 Cup per load (approx. 180 loads)
Front Load Machine: 1/4 Cup per load (approx. 640 loads)
* This works very well for both top or front load washing machines.
This really is a fantastic DIY Laundry Detergent recipe!
I’ve been making this for a few years now and have saved a TON of money!!
