How to Discover Realignment in Your Life…
And God’s Purpose For It. Does God want to realign you?
We must understand how to discover realignment in our lives and God’s purpose. Realigning your life to your purpose isn’t always an easy thing. It’s worth it, though.
It’s easy to miss that God wants us to realign our steps or direction. Yet, when we do, we experience His perfect guidance.
This can still cause a huge frustration in us.
Realignment is Difficult
Change is a sweet, sweet pain.
The actual changing process we find in realigning can be excruciating. Nevertheless, the outcome is usually sweet and rewarding. The change is beneficial to you even though the process is rarely fun.
I’ve gone through a realignment process multiple times in my life. Ya, it’s not fun! I can tell you now that I am so thankful I went through it. Looking back, I can see how necessary it was. The difficulty and pain were necessary for my growth.
Sometimes things have changed that the Lord wanted me to do, and sometimes I didn’t get it. At certain times, I was completely walking out of self-will and wasn’t walking in obedience. Other times, I was unaware that I needed realignment.
I’m Currently Being Realigned
I am currently going through another realignment process; without a doubt, it is painful, and things are uncertain. Because of this, I need to remind myself daily that God is with me and is still my provider.
I wrote a bit about this in my article, ‘God Is Realigning Me To Walk In My Purpose.‘
If you’d like to hear more about this, you can watch my video on YouTube.
God may want to realign us in a variety of things.
It could be anything from our diet, health habits (or lack thereof), attitude issues, how we view things or people, a ministry, how we handle money, or even our type of employment. In some cases, it could also be a combination of areas.
Ways To Know You Are Being Realigned
There are various ways the Lord will start the process of realignment within us. Sometimes, it’s blunt and extremely easy to tell that we are about to go on a different path and that our lives are being realigned. Other times, it can be confusing and not very apparent at all.
Do you have recurring thoughts about something? Are you feeling a recurring push toward something?
Please let me just add that if these thoughts are negative or depress you, they are not of God. In a way that could send you spiraling or into depression.
We always need to ask for Godly and wise discernment over all thoughts and situations. I’ve learned the hard way to never leave God out of anything.
We are to take all thoughts captive. You can find that in 2 Corinthians 10:5. The Amplied version includes ‘and purpose’.
“We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ …” ~ 2 Cor. 10:5 AMP
I love how the Message version puts it…
“The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way–never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.” ~ 2 Cor. 10:3-6 MSG
That’s not to say you won’t feel any hesitation or feelings of being uncomfortable with the idea or change you’re being nudged towards.
Do you feel nudged towards a change? Is it a consistent nudge that just won’t let you go?
Persistent Restlessness
Typically, when you are feeling persistent restlessness or dissatisfaction in your life, along with the thoughts or nudges pushing you towards something different, that is a good sign that God wants to redirect you.
Maybe it’s not completely like a whole new job, but instead, it could be adding a little ministry to your life, mentoring a child, or starting a small home group.
It will always be aligned with what God is calling you to do in your life. Ultimately, it will always be personal to you individually.
Key Indicators
Again, there are several key indicators you might just be seeing or experiencing in your life.
- Repeated Obstacles or Challenges
- Greater Desire to Go Deeper with God
- Coincidences with Purpose
- Internal Nudges or Pushes
- Discontentment
- Shifts in Dynamics with People
It’s a Process
Realignment is quite a cool thing if we look through the right lenses. There are a few helpful ways to discern the direction the Holy Spirit is leading you in.
Scripture
Open your Bible and ask the Lord to show you what He wants you to read. The Bible is the living Word of God and tends to speak directly to our hearts as individuals. Have faith in His Word for you as His child.
I have been amazed time and time again when I’ve asked the Lord to speak to me, and He directs me to a verse that’s perfectly aligned to what I’m going through or needing clarity on at the time.
My favorite versions of Scripture (in order) are:
- Amplified
- Message
- Passion
- NIV
Pray About Realignment in Life
Spend time talking this over with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They are great listeners and are always there for you.
The Godhead, also known as the Trinity, can be spoken to as the Lord or God, all as One.
You can also have a relationship with God individually as the Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit. They are all one, yet they all have unique characteristics.
Examine Your Emotions
We are never to be run by our emotions. Our emotions can truly deceive us and lead us in the wrong direction.
Yet, our emotions can be a way God leads us. We need to look at our emotions with great discernment. Ask God why you are feeling the way you are.
Is the way you are feeling something to consider in your decision-making?
Is the way you’re feeling a trap from the enemy? The enemy can play rampant on our emotions. Never walk first in, nor allow your emotions to fully direct you.
Seek Wise Counsel
Even so, even if we’ve done all of the above, we may still experience confusion or uncertainty.
It’s always a good idea to seek wise, Godly counsel in big decisions and on how to right your life in God’s will for you.
On the other hand, they may not have a prophetic message or a word of knowledge for you, but instead, they may be able to talk you through your situation and pray for you. Seeking wise counsel through my church has been life-changing for me.
My Favorite Prayer Layout
P: Praise God
Give Him thanks and adoration for all that He has done and is doing in your life. Show Him true gratification and thanksgiving. Worship is also a great way to start this off. He loves your voice!! Praise and adoration of the King softens our hearts to receive, and it brings in the presence of God. This is vital for breakthrough. Praise and worship are for us. It reminds our minds, hearts, and spirits of WHO He is. This helps to build our faith.
R: Repent of Your Sins
We all sin daily. It’s the consequence of the fall in the Garden of Eden with Eve and Adam. Ask for forgiveness for anger, pride, control, idolatry, unforgiveness, bitterness, and what comes to your heart while you repent. There is such a sweet and true freedom in repenting to God of our sins. He is quick to forgive us and wipe us clean. There is no condemnation in God. We receive true and complete freedom and love from God.
A: Ask God for His Help
Ask Him for His supplication for yourself and others. The repentance part is key to this part. Once we are forgiven and wiped clean by the Lord, we are found innocent in His righteous court. The verdict is innocent and free! We can come into His chamber and ask Him for His help.
Y: Yield to God
Submit to the will of God Almighty. His ways are far different from our ways. Without exception, He has ALWAYS made better decisions for my life than I ever have—after all, He’s the Creator. Humble your heart to Him and put your obedience to Him into daily action.
Remember…
Trust God and the process He’s taking you through. It’s not always an easy process, but in the end, it is worth it.
Moreover, when we come to a difficult decision or process, it is usually because God wants us to go to the next level with Him.
He wants us to grow and go deeper with Him. He’s calling us to become spiritually mature.
Sometimes, it’s a matter of building strength and resolve within us to always, no matter what, trust God.
Unfortunately, this can involve scary and uncertain times in our lives. The times where we are crying out to God to please show Himself and help us.
It’s great wisdom to heed the direction of the Lord. Denying it or hiding from it can cause delay in your life, growth, and purpose.
If you choose to submit to the Lord, especially in times of trouble, you will grow and be strengthened to an undeniable degree.
